On September 1, 2015, Philos Records will release The Darkness Before Dawn, the latest LP from hiphop/electro producer Daily Bread – his first album since 2014’s debut Out There, which EDMsauce.com declared “an incredible, groovy LP that soothes your soul” and Net Frequency TV explained “oozes of positive energy and good vibes that will put a smile on your face from beginning to end”.
Produced and arranged solely by record collector and beatsmith, Rhett Whatley, The Darkness Before Dawn was recorded in Atlanta over the cold, wet winter and spring of 2014/15. This project features some of Daily Bread’s darkest material.
“I was really focused on bringing some of the sadder, depression-dripped tones out of my record collection with this LP” Whatley explains. The songs tell tales of love lost, never-ending rain storms, late night encounters, and restless minds. I really made something that has a lot of life in it.”
As an Atlanta native residing at the corner of Hiphop and EDM, Daily Bread brings a fresh organic sound an an energetic live show accompanied by live drummer Eric Jefferson. With less than ten total live appearances to date, Daily Bread has landed sets at some of the biggest music festivals in the world, including Counterpoint, Imagine Festive, TALOA Festival, and has shared the stage locally with iLL Gates, K-Camp, Wick-It The Instagator, Funk You, and many more.
Rhett Whatley, the music project’s creative force, has a background in formal percussion and guitar. Working at a skateshop for years along with obsessive record collecting in college created a burning passion for hiphop production. The Darness Before Dawn album incorporates all of these elements…and more.
